Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations.

First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire–and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London’s high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

My Rating and General Opinion

Great pass time book!!

The Writing

The thing I liked most about this one was the writing!! I heard some stuff not so good about the writing but it definitely worked for me. it was detailed and with an accuracy that transported me to this London era and to the characters!!

The Story

Nothing about this story really bothered me, the poorest thing about it would be the plot. the plot in itself was simple and mostly not explained or played with too much. The beggining was enjoyable but slow (according to the main plot that was gonna take place) it wasn’t until the end of the book that everything happened, too quickly!! I would say that I see this is the first one in the series, so it was mostly a character presentation, and in that fact it did a good job.

The Characters

I liked the characters!! There was a bit of everything! colorful and rich characters such as Lord Akeldama, and shy and faithful and also kinda mysterious like Professor Lyall and Floote the allknowing butler.
I always like a good sassy female character which I can relate to and the was Alexia!!
The Beastie that was the Earl… that’s what I pictured him like Beast from beauty and the beast!! and I could so see this relationship… she bossing after him…haha!

I hope the rest of the series takes on more adventures and trickier plots!
