I’ve found very little about private detective R. F. Jackaby to be standard in the time I’ve known him. Working as his assistant tends to call for a somewhat flexible relationship with reality . . .

In 1892, New Fiddleham, New England, things are never quite what they seem, especially when Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, R. F. Jackaby, are called upon to investigate the supernatural. First, members of a particularly vicious species of shape-shifters disguise themselves as a litter of kittens. A day later, their owner is found murdered, with a single mysterious puncture wound to her neck. Then, in nearby Gad’s Valley, dinosaur bones from a recent dig go missing, and an unidentifiable beast attacks animals and people, leaving their mangled bodies behind. Policeman Charlie Cane, exiled from New Fiddleham to the valley, calls on Abigail for help, and soon Abigail and Jackaby are on the hunt for a thief, a monster, and a murderer.

My Rating and General Opinion

If the first one’s plot didn’t sink that well this one was completely with?¿?

The Writing

The writing maintained itself and was entertaining enough.

The Story

Storywise… it started up right where the first one ended and with a creep stalker (highly anticipated, but we’ll have to wait), we had a little road trip and then we find some corpses and some dinosaur remains?? The thing got silly from that moment, but I still had my suspicions or wishes of some kind of a vampirous creep to find as culprit… I guess I was 50/50 on that one but still the main plot didn’t end there and just took a turn to crazytown/completely-unbelievabletown. And yes, I think it was right in the first chapter where they basically tell you what will happen…
If one thing, I found more evolution in the characters and the storyline in this second book than in the first one, so that was a plus.

The Characters

I was glad to have a bit of a road trip so that we could visit our friend Charlie, but still there wasn’t enought of him, poorly poorly treated character with lots of possibilities!!
Although in the other hand Miss Took did surprise in a positive way become even more badass!!

And enjoy our female protagonist’s adventures, but the plots are just too unbelievable and scarse… I’ll continue with the series because I think the third one is gonna be the good one!
