First of all for all of you who don’t know about this, it is a brand new tag created by Flavia @ Flavia the Bibliophile and Melanie @ Melanie Noell Bernard Books. It’s a monthly blog event inspired by Neil Sedaka’s 1961 song Calendar Girl, where every month a specific theme will be picked up and you’ll have to read a book you find fit into that theme and then incite discussions with other bloggers.
This month’s theme is Best Romance in YA!!
This was definitely not an easy one because I tend not to read YA romances. I prefer adult romance novels but I can see how the romance in itself is a main part in the subgenre that is YA. Looking at my goodreads YA list I found two possible choices that I highly enjoyed: THG’s Katniss&Peeta and Vampire Academy’s Rose&Dimitri. Both of this are great romances in my opinion. One is slow building, pure and soft and the other one is a sudden, strong and passionate romance that got maybe a bit too addictive for me. These would be perfect choices but I decided to go with another angle and that’s why the best romance in YA for me is:
The Book Thief!
You may be shocked because this isn’t usually categorized as a romance novel but I find the relationship between Liesel and Hans Hubermann just breathtaking and one of those romance stories that is not easily forgotten. The pair just blossoms and from the first minute they click together so much that a really strong love story happens between this father and daughter. Not your typical love story, and maybe not what you hoped for but it’s been more than a month and I still remember both of them fondly. This story is simply full of love, because we can’t forget the relationship between Death&Liesel. I also found Death’s attachment to Liesel to be quite unique.
Let’s not forget what’s really important about romance novels… LOVE.

Next month’s theme will be War Books!!
(Funnily enough the book selected for this month it’s a perfect one for next month too!! 😦 😦 )
I am 0 for 3 for all of The Calendar Girls. I have not read this book yet, but I have heard amazing things about it. I really did not know there was any romance in this, as you said, but I find it interesting you took it in a different, unique way. I will definitely have to put this on my TBR, since you definitely made me super intrigued!

Hehe hehe yes I took another angle…
I am pretty sure you’ve heard about this book before because it has a ton of buzz surrounding it, and I am just gonna say it is well deserved… It took me a while to finally be in the mood for it but I’m glad!! 😊

Huh. I’ve never actually read this book so I had no idea it had any romance in it, but I like your non-romance pick! Very nice choice! :p I was afraid I’d have to resort to that, too, since I don’t read much in the realm of romance. Not really my genre, but great pick! ^.^

Haha neither is mine. I mean I love a good romance sometimes… But YA just is too cheesy hehe
Well you should read this one! It’s fantastic!! But I understand you have to find yourself in a specific set of mind…

This is another one that I have heard of but have never read. You’re right about love being the most important part of romance. So is this book sad? I have heard it’s sad.

Yes, I won’t lie. This one is sad and breathtaking and it left my crying (I have a frozen heart so that’s not so easy) but I enjoyed it too much.

Thanks so much for participating in Calendar Girls! And this book….I’ve been debating whether to add it to my TBR or not, but I feel like it will make me bawl my eyes out. I try to avoid being sad if I can, but I think I will have to read this book at some point!

I think you’ll have to yes. It’s kind of mandatory!! Hehe 😂😊 It’s sad yes but you can get so much more than sadness out of it that I think you should definitely put it in your TBR! 😉
