Book Haul: May

Welcome back!! Here is my may book haul!!!

You would think that it being my birthday month my book haul would have been more generous right?? Well, unlike last year, this year I decided to control myself and ended up acquiring more bookish related items than books per se. The main reason for that was than I simply had almost no room for books… and my TBR keeps growing exponentially so that doesn’t help either! But without further ado here’s my may book haul, being those last two GORGEOUS copies my only birthday present 😍😍

Talking about bookish items maybe I should soon do a post about those… I am talking about bookmarks and candles… there are a ton of companies out there to choose from and I am very happy with my finds! 😉

As you can see, once more, genre wise I continued with the expansion!! 😉

First in the non fiction corner we have Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me by Lily Collins which is a book I’ve already talked about, I read it last month on digital form but I had to have it physically so here it is! And you can see the mini review here in case you missed it 😉 Then there’s the other non ficion or more accurately my first true crime book and one I’ve been eyeing for quite some time Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry.

Then, we get to sciency stuff and because this book is quite unique I still have trouble as to in which category it should go, but I decided to describe it as SciFi although technically it would be a very technical contemporary with some serious pre-dystopian vibes. And that for you is The Circle by David Eggers of which you can find my review here.

Then come the three books I cannot wait to sink my teeth into! Those are the ones that fit into the thriller, psychological thriller, mystery and in Jack Reacher’s case action genres. First a new author for me, of whom I’ve heard great but gruesome things, Pierre Lemaitre’s Camille Verhœven Series books #1 & #2 Irene and Alex respectively. It’s been long since I read in spanish and even more since I tried with a thriller in sp so we’ll see! And lastly, a character that needs almost no introduction: Jack Reacher. This is Night School book #21 in Lee Child’s never-ending series, the last book is out already although for my format to be out I guess I’ll have to wait a whole year… But I’ve time because I am currently on book #15 so no pressure.

And lastly let’s give it up for some classics. First there’s the much appreciated The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood which is a modern and dystopian classic that I’ve already read and really liked the concept of it all but still the writing drove me mad at times. Hopefully the proper review will be up next week! Then it’s time for my birthday presents, aren’t they gorgeous?? These are already pretty known who doesn’t know of Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen or Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë?? They are my favourite classics and these editions well I needed to have them because they are gorgeous!! These are some special editions by Penguin Classics available mainly in Waterstones (UK) and gorgeousness doesn’t even begin to cover it… 😍😍😍

Here a photo of my P&P and JE collections so far! Actually I own another of gorgeous copies of P&P in spanish, but let’s give it up for symmetry!! 😉
(it wasn’t suppose to be that blurry but insta blurred the hell out of it! 😒)

You should get to it yes! I just read it and it was a new kind of experience! I’ve always been fascinated with the Manson theme… So cannot wait to hear more about it either!

Hehehe I never thought I was going to fall into that bookish world but I failed! 😂😂
You should get to The Handmaid’s Tale, I think it’s another must!! And about those classic editions you are right they are totally gorgeous! They stole my heart! And both are equally gorgeous like the clothbound they are based on, but it’s true that P&P is especially striking! 😍😍

Oh I know what you mean, trust me!! I don’t even check candle businesses in the US because the shipping it’s even more expensive than the product in itself! But thankfully there are some in Europe were you don’t feel robbed! 😉

Ikr?! I was going to get a candle that was around 7euros or so and it was asking me for 20 of shipping 😱 I couldn’t believe it! I couldn’t make myself buy it… I haven’t got any so far and I am dying to get some!

I know! First of all they aren’t that cheap, but with thhat shipping price… I would have never bought it either! My first purchase was with a 50% discount and since then my other have always been with some kind of deal, usually the second half price! Just curious, in which shop did you try to buy?? I only get candles from Meraki Candles and the shipping is affordable (at least for us in Europe! 🙌🙌).
